Use video job ads to showcase your company to candidates

Tags: Recruitment Marketing

Have you noticed employers using video to advertise their vacancies? This is a growing trend that helps companies give candidates a unique and visual insight into what it’s like to work with them. We think video ads are a great idea, so we’ve put together a few of the benefits as well as what you need to get started.

Show where candidates will work

While it’s possible to describe your beautiful office space with words, there is no substitute for actually showing candidates. You can use a video ad to give potential employees a visual tour of exactly the environment that they will work in, should they get the job. You can even show them their desk!

Of course, that means you will need to film on the move or in multiple locations. Avoid recording in just one place and no plain walls in the background! Remember that this is a chance to show off your workspace. You can attract the best candidates by helping them picture what life will be like at your company.

Introduce your team

Candidates want to work in a great office, but they also want to find themselves working with a great set of colleagues. Video ads give you the perfect chance to introduce your team in an informal setting. That might mean a quick hello to camera as you tour the office or a slightly more formal vox pop or interview.

Ultimately, the aim is to give candidates an idea of who they are going to work with. It will help them get a feel for your company’s shared values and make things that bit easier for the successful candidate on their first day. They’ll feel like they know you already!

Demonstrate your company culture

Company culture plays such an important role in attracting the best candidates. Do they understand your values and how you go about your work? Will they fit into and thrive as part of your team? Again, offering a written description of your company culture is great, but being able to show it on video is even better.

There are many ways that you could go about demonstrating your company culture via video. Introducing the office space and team members as described above is a great start. But you can also talk about (and show) things like flexible working hours, recycling policies and monthly social meetups.

Bring the role to life

When it comes down to it, candidates want to know what they will be doing from day to day. What does their role really involve? This information would typically form a large part of the traditional written job ad, which means candidates will already have some idea what to expect. With video, you can go even further.

It depends on the type of vacancy you’re trying to fill, but why not show candidates some completed projects? It’s a simple way of showing them what their work might lead to. Be enthusiastic about the best parts of the job, elaborate on areas that require more explanation and be clear about what candidates can expect.

How to make your own video job ad

You might be reading this and thinking that you’re going to need to brush up on your technical skills. That doesn’t have to be the case at all. The camera built right into your phone will do a job, so long as your content is good enough. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make your video as professional as you possibly can. Video ads could prove a fantastic investment, so you may want to put some budget aside and hire a professional video maker. If that sounds like a plan, we can advise you and put you in touch with the right people.

So, what do you think? Time to give video job ads a try? Let us know if you decide to go for it – we’d love to see what you come up with.
